What Are You Desperate For?

Welcome to Rich by Proximity's first official blog. As a blogger for over 10 years, I’m excited to bring fresh, authentic writing to this space. This is for the entrepreneurs, creatives, and big dreamers who crave raw truth, not fluff—truth with God at the center. So, here we are.

Let me start by asking: How are you? And I don't mean how your kids, spouse, or job are doing. I mean, how are youdoing? Beyond the mask of “everything's fine” because you have a roof over your head or a healthy savings account. I’m asking about the real, deep, God-created you. Are you in touch with your purpose right now? Do you even know what it is?

I ask because I wore a mask for many years—multiple, in fact—and found success with them. But inside, I was exhausted, drained, and unfulfilled. I had all the external signs of success, but none of it reached my soul. In losing it all, I found my true self, and that was the moment I met my God-self.

You don't have to lose everything to find yourself. That's why this blog exists, as a wake-up call.

For years, I was a people-pleaser, the person with 100 friends because I wanted to give everyone what I had, driven by the fear of not having enough. I wore masks from childhood—masking the struggle, the dreams that felt too big for my reality. I took on dreams for others, thinking I could make life better for them too.

But those masks? They became spiritual and physical weight. I was desperate for the things that ultimately left me empty. Yes, I saw success, but I was tired. I let it all fall apart, not just because it didn’t belong to me, but because I was exhausted. I had nothing left but God. And let me tell you, that was the best place to be.

When I stopped the victim mindset, started speaking faith, and shifted my perspective, I began to see life differently. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) I fell hard, but I learned how to stand again—not by my strength, but through God.

Here’s what I discovered from wearing all those masks:

  • I was single most of my 30s because I feared a relationship would derail my dreams.

  • People-pleasing left me constantly surrounded by others when, ironically, I enjoyed being alone.

  • I chased after the next thing relentlessly, not realizing it was mentally draining me.

  • I associated success with working hard—because my parents worked tirelessly and still struggled.

These false narratives I created waged war against my soul. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.” (Ephesians 6:12) It created stress, and with stress comes disease.

We get desperate for our “whys”—the reasons we think we need to keep going. But what happens when those reasons change or disappear?

In this season of my life, instead of being desperate for things or people, I’ve learned to become desperate for God. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) When you align yourself with God, everything around you aligns too.

So, let me ask you again: What are you desperate for? If your answer is unclear, that’s okay. Today can be the day you choose to be desperate for God. Take off the mask, release the burdens you’re carrying, and lean into the life God has for you.

Take Action:

  • Reflect: Spend time in prayer and ask God to show you the masks you've been wearing.

  • Journal: Write down what you’re desperate for and why. Ask yourself, is this desperation pulling me closer to God or away from Him?

  • Meditate: Sit quietly and focus on God’s presence. Let Him fill the empty spaces that no person or thing ever could.

  • Surrender: Make a commitment today to release your need to control everything and trust God with your life. “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Remember, the only thing you should be desperate for is God's presence in your life. When He is your foundation, everything else will fall into place.

You’ve got this. With God by your side, you're already Rich by Proximity.

XOXO,
Ceret
